Monthly meetings will be held the last Thursday of every month 6-7 pm at Pillsbury Memorial Hall.
Past: Sutton used to recycle plastic, but this was stopped due to the high cost and uncertainty about whether it was actually being recycled.
Present: Sutton residents miss be given the opportunity to recycle, and some have said they feel this should be done even if it costs money.
Future: The committee has been told by Glenn Pogust of a possible contract with the Lebanon transfer station, which accepts all types of plastic and reportedly has takers for them all. The committee will explore this after receiving the information about it from Glenn. The committee feels that communication is a very important part of its mission, and would like to use the newly-updated Sutton town website as an educational tool. This would include publishing information about what can and can't be accepted, and recycled, at the transfer station, and what the fees are for various items to be disposed of. It would also include notifying the town residents about events hosted by other towns that are open to Sutton residents, such as the styrofoam pickup days, hazardous waste collection, and paper shredding events that New London offers. The best way to get rid of plastic is to never use it at all, and our education efforts will include suggestions for people who are interested in reducing their plastic use. In future, the committee may expand its mission to look at other troublesome materials, such as cat litter.
